The Beauchamp Arms, positioned along the banks of the River Yare, is at risk of losing its alcohol license after several objections were lodged with the police and South Norfolk Council (SNC).
One protest concerning noise emanated from a vessel anchored at Coldham Hall, approximately 2.5 miles distant. Additional complaints extended across a broad expanse of the Yare valley, spanning from Rockland St Mary to Hassingham.
The disclosure that the pub is under review surfaced during an SNC licensing committee gathering held on Tuesday.
The assembly convened to deliberate a plea for a provisional license to host a nocturnal revelry at the pub in February 2024.
A representative from the council mentioned that a review was under serious consideration, but further details couldn't be expounded upon.
The proposition for the after-hours license, termed a temporary event notice, was rebuffed by the committee.
Despite the proprietorship belonging to Raymond Hollocks, the submission for the temporary license was lodged by Callum Richardson, the organizer of the event. An earlier celebration in July enticed approximately 400 merrymakers and featured 32 disc jockeys.
Ali Pridmore, an environmental safeguard officer at SNC, attended to monitor the gathering, accompanied by law enforcement, as previous occasions had triggered grievances.
Mr. Pridmore informed the assembly that Mr. Hollocks displayed an attitude of disregard and defiance.
Although absent from the committee session, Mr. Hollocks accused the official of being "impolite and confrontational" and lodged a complaint against him.
Contrary to Mr. Hollocks' claim, body-worn camera footage scrutinised by the police contradicted this assertion.
The committee was apprised that the pub is located in a low-lying, flat terrain, and various factors such as wind direction could result in sound carrying over substantial distances.
Mr. Hollocks has been embroiled in multiple disputes with the local council and the Broads Authority concerning the Beauchamp Arms, as well as his other Broads establishments at Berney Arms and Loddon Marina.
Both he and his son, William Hollocks, face prosecution by the Broads Authority over an enduring controversy involving caravans on the Beauchamps Arms premises.
Both parties deny the accusation of failing to adhere to enforcement directives issued by the authority, as declared in Norwich Magistrates' Court.
The case is slated to revisit the court in the future.
